The federal government has terminated numerous federally funded grants and contracts to Harvard and is scaling back investments in scientific and medical research across the country. In this series, Harvard Medical School scientists discuss how these actions are affecting their research and their labs.

Kamila Naxerova studies colorectal cancer, which is projected to be the number one cause of cancer death in people under fifty within the next twenty years. Her federal research grants have been terminated by the government.

“I think that cutting cancer research at this particular point in time will be very damaging,” she says.

As a mid-career scientist, Kamila has worked hard for many years to obtain federal grants through a highly competitive process that funds science most likely to benefit the American people. She now runs a relatively large lab that relies on federal funds for its existence. Learn more about her work in the video below.
